Arlene Westrud

Arlene Marie Westrud, 86, of Winona, died Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. Arlene’s faith was steadfast and she often said “there would be a day she knew she would be with God and it would be wonderful.” That day has come and she is at peace.

Arlene was born March 5, 1938 in Spring Grove to Henry and Sylvia (Sagdalen) Hermanson. On June 15, 1959, she married Kenneth Westrud and they made their home throughout the United States and France as he was serving in the Air Force. They settled in Winona in 1973 where they raised their four daughters.

Arlene wore many hats throughout her working career, with her favorite being a Payroll Specialist in California. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and spending time with her family. She was a longtime member of Central Lutheran Church and was a servant of God through Stevens Ministry.

She is survived by her husband, Ken; three daughters, Rhonda (Gary) Lorenz, Brenda (Tom) Schaefer; Sheila (Larry) Thoeny; ten beautiful grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane (Gary) Peterson, Loretta (Richard) Holland and Jean Blagdsvedt.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Westrud; three brothers, Erling, Gary and Ronald Hermanson; two sisters, Cheryl Burden and Jeanette Nelson.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, August 5, 2024 at the chapel at Lake Winona Manor. Visitation will be 10 a.m., until the time of the service. Masks are required. She will be laid to rest at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston at 2 p.m., anyone that wishes to be there, please meet at the cemetery by 1:45 p.m.
