HOUSTON, MN - Arlene Ruth Cornwell, 90, of Houston, MN died on Monday, March 14, 2016, at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab in Houston.
Arlene was born on October 13, 1925, in La Crosse, WI to Arthur and Linda (Kappauf) Beach. She was raised at South Ridge in rural La Crescent, MN where she attended country school. She was united in marriage on June 29, 1942, to La Verne Cornwell at the South Ridge Evangelical Lutheran Parsonage. Arlene and La Verne lived in Chaseburg, WI for a few years, and then moved to Nodine, MN where they farmed for many years. in 1991. Arlene and La Verne moved to Houston where Arlene lived until entering the nursing home. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Nodine. In her spare time, Arlene enjoyed gardening, fancy work, word search puzzles, watching the humming birds and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four daughters: Darlene Wolter, of Holmen, WI; Sharon (Leonard) Buege of Pickwick, MN, Donna (Ian) Young of Houston, and Karen Krumrie of Houston; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, La Verne; two sons: Lawrence and Sonny, and two grandsons: Butch and Justin.
There will be a funeral service for Arlene at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Nodine, MN with the Rev. Dennis Harbach officiating. Burial will be in the Hiler Cemetery in Nodine. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
