Arlene Karakas

St. Charles, Minn. - Arlene V. Karakas, 81, of St. Charles died Friday March 10, 2006 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles. Arlene was born July 27, 1924 in Spooner, Wisconsin to Lawrence and Marie (Westphall) McShane. She grew up in Superior, WI and graduated from the Catholic School in Superior. Arlene then went to X-Ray Laboratory Technician training at Virginia Hospital in Virginia, MN. She married Joseph G. Karakas on August 23, 1947 in Superior, WI. They made their home in St. Charles where she was a long time employee of the St. Charles Clinic, working as an X-Ray Laboratory Technician. Arlene was a member of the St. Borromeo Catholic Church, the Church Choir, Catholic Daughters, and the Legion Auxiliary in St. Charles. Arlene enjoyed fishing trips with her friends and family and gave of her time and talents to the community. Survivors include two children; Mike (Mary Jo) Karakas of Richfield, MN and Kathy (John Boucher) Johnson of St. Paul, MN; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her parents; and her brother, Larry McShane.A funeral Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. Tuesday March 14, 2006 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with the Rev. James Callahan officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
