Lewiston, Arlene Helen (Klavitter) Sommer, 81, of rural Lewiston died Wednesday morning November 30, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Arlene was born May 5, 1930 in Winona to August and Milda (Ohm) Klavitter. She graduated from Lewiston High School and later from Winona State Teachers College with a Masters in Education. Arlene and George Sommer were married on August 6, 1951. They farmed south of Lewiston. She taught school for many years at; Wykoff, Rushford and Lewiston Public Schools and had worked for Winona County for several years as well. Arlene and George loved to travel. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden, reading and spending time with family. Arlene was a devoted life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she played organ for many years. Arlene will be deeply missed by her family, including her three sons; Steven and Dawn, David and Linda, James and Sarah, grandchildren; Chad (Sarah), Alicia, Jamie (Jared), Stacey (Ryan), Logan, Kelly, Michael, Kaitlyn, Andrea (David), Justin (Jennifer), several great-grandchildren and a sister Betty Bergler of Winona. She was preceded in death by her husband George on May 25, 1979 and two sisters Lucille and Marilyn. Funeral Services to Celebrate Arlene's life will be at 11AM Monday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at Wilson with the Reverend Anthony Straseske officiating.
