Ardys ViAnn Hurley, 82, of Chatfield passed away April 5, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Methodist Campus.
Ardys was born November 12, 1933 in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Olaf and Anna (Kieland) Hagen. She graduated from Spring Grove High School and Winona State Teachers College. On August 19, 1954 she married Robert E. Hurley in Caledonia. In her early years she worked as a teacher, grocery store clerk and provided child care in her home for many years.
Ardys enjoyed bowling, knitting, reading, playing bridge with her friends, and following the Minnesota Vikings & Twins. Her greatest joy was following all the activities her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were involved in.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She also was a long-time member of St. Mary's choir.
Ardys is lovingly remembered by her children: Caryn (Joe) Erickson of Fremont, Nebraska, Deb (Rick) VonWald of Chatfield, Dan (Peg) Hurley of Chatfield, Chari (Todd) Kruegel of Spring Valley, Dayna (Greg) LaPlante of Chatfield. Fourteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one brother Owen (Gayle) Hagen of Spring Grove also survive.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2012, a grandson, and her sister, Ione (Hagen) Benson of Spring Grove.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 8th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chatfield with Father William Thompson officiating. A time of visitation and sharing will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass on Friday. Rite of Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery in Chatfield at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Organ Fund or the American Cancer Society.
