Ardella Marie Nilles, 90, of Rollingstone, died Wednesday March 19, 2008 at Community Memorial Hospital. She and her twin brother Alvin were born on a farm near Petersburg, Iowa on July 21, 1917, to Louis and Margaret (Lammers) Scherbring. The Scherbring family moved to Rollingstone in October of 1922. She and Arnold P. Nilles were married in Holy Trinity Church, Rollingstone, on June 10, 1941. Arnold died October 1, 1982 Ardella was a homemaker and farmer who resided in Rollingstone almost all of her life, with a recent stay at the Winona Manor. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Ladies Aid and Rosary Society, and the St. Mary's Circle; the Winona County Historical Society, Winona County Old Settlers' Association and the Rollingstone Luxembourg Museum and Luxembourg Society. She volunteered at the historic Marnach House, teaching children how to cook homemade soap. She enjoyed farm management, gardening, baking and traveling, especially her visits to New York City, Iowa, Luxembourg, Germany and Holland. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren in St. Paul. In 2007 Ardella co-authored The Hemecht Coloring Book. Ardella's is survived by her four children; daughter, Mary, Rollingstone and Brooklyn, NY; and three sons in St. Paul: Brad (Laurie) Nilles, Kerry (Kathy) Nilles and Brian (Lora) Nilles, six grandchildren; Doug, Martha, Hannah, Luke, Alex and Anja Nilles, her surviving siblings Clarence (Virginia) Scherbring, Rollingstone; Luella (Robert) Wise, and Betty (Richard) Burnett, Winona; and sister-in-law Bernette (Gilbert) Scherbring, Altura, MN. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold, and sons Kent and Myron Nilles; her twin brother Alvin; and by siblings Gilbert (Bernette) Scherbring, Irvin (Verna) Scherbring, Cora (Alfred) Lehnertz, Irma (Lawrence ) McCormick, Regina (Norbert) Kronebusch, Mildred (Edward) Lehnertz, and Walter (Donna) Scherbring. The Funeral Mass will be 11AM Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Rollingstone with The Reverend Donald Lovas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Holy Trinity Catholic Church from 4 to 8 on Tuesday, March 25, with a prayer service at 7:30 on Tuesday. Friends may also call one hour before the Mass on Wednesday.
