WINONAAnne Florence Kaufman, 89 of Winona, died peacefully, Saturday, December 13, 2014 at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.Anne was born December 22, 1924 in Villeneuve, Alberta, Canada to Alexander and Delina L'Hirondelle. She was the oldest of 9 children. Anne met the love of her life, Donald Kaufman in Edmonton, Alberta during WWII while he was stationed there as an airman. They married on October 2, 1946 and after the war, traveled to his hometown of Mankato, MN to begin their life together. Anne had a great affection for her family in Canada so Don promised to take her back to see them every chance he could. He kept that promise through all their years together.Don found a lifelong career with Bell Telephone which eventually became US West. His job led him and Anne to Winona where they raised their family and enjoyed their years together until separated by Don's passing in 2010.Anne was an excellent homemaker, creating a comfortable home, baking treats and cooking meals for her appreciative family. As a young family, they did a lot of traveling together, especially road trips to Canada to visit her relatives. Anne loved to feed and observe the birds that inhabited around her home. She enjoyed reading newspapers everyday and rarely missed the local TV news. She loved music and it was always playing on her radio. She loved to dance. Don had courted her dancing to the Big Bands of the 1940's as a young couple. They kept their romance going in their older years by being members of the Hilltop Dance Club in Fountain City, WI. Anne along with Don, was a member of St. Mary's Parish for more than 60 years.Anne was a great friend to many and her family meant the world to her. She will be greatly missed.She is survived by her daughter, Annette Kaufman of the Twin Cities; son, Edward Kaufman of Boulder, CO; one granddaughter, Marielle Mohs of Little Rock, AR; four siblings: Gladys (Wilf), Ron (Diane), Ellen (Cal) and Marilyn. Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Don; son, Alan; her parents and four siblings: Paul, Octavie, Doreen and Ernie.Anne's family would like to give special thanks to Jo McGrath, Charleen Jaszewski, Steve Hesse, Eric Peterson and the staff at St. Anne's 5th floor.Memorial Mass will be 2 p.m., Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Chapel of Our Lady at St. Anne Extended Healthcare with the Reverend James Berning officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m., until the time of the service. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Mary's Cemetery. Hoff Celebration of Life Center - Goodview is assisting the family with arrangements.
