Anna Dorothy Brand, 96 of Lewiston, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.God looked around his garden and found an empty space, then he looked down and saw her tired face. He put his arms around Anna and lifted her to rest, God's garden must be beautiful he only takes the best. Anna was born in 1918 to Mary and August Verdick, she grew up on a farm in Stockton Valley with her seven siblings, and in 1939 she married a very special man Melvin Brand from Lewiston. They farmed on the Brand farm until 2004 when they moved to Lewiston to live with their daughter Nancy Lorenz. Anna was a true farmer and as hard as she worked on that farm she loved every minute of it. There was nothing she could not do out there and she did it well. She was a terrific cook and baking was one of her greatest talents. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, sister and the Aunt every kid wants in their life. Her neighbors loved her like family and she them. No invitations needed for anyone to stop over, from the smallest party to the largest, it made her happy to see you there. Once you met Anna, she was a friend forever. All the grandchildren were a big part of her life and she spent many hours in her busy life caring and having just plain fun with them, they were the love of her life, and many of them were very close to her. Anna lived a pretty healthy life until the last two years when a hiatal hernia operation at the age of 92 took a lot of energy out of her. The last 6 months she fought hard to come back from a major illness, but this was one battle she could not beat. She is survived by her son Dan (Christine); daughters, Nancy, Susie (Rich), Dolly, Betty (Roger) and Joann (Bozy); grandchildren, Ken, Kevin, Kermie, Kyle, Kim, Kristie, and Kerry (Joann's Children); Roger Jr., Brian, Brenda and Stacy, (Betty's Children); Jody, Tricia, and Todd (Nancy's Children); Julie and Amy (Dolly's Children) Jenny, Jena, Michael, (Susie's Children); Andrew, and Nicholas (Dan's Children) ; 42 Great -Grandchildren; 14 Great-Great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a very close Grandson, Nicholas Brand who she babysat since he was born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin of 69 years in 2009; grandchildren, Jerry Lorenz, Tino, Blanka and Eric Rumstick. Anna was the last survivor of her 7 siblings, Tracy, John, Ed, Harry, Teddy, Josephine, and Dorothy. Anna would want to thank her daughter, Nancy and Tricia Lorenz and Scott Ball for all their care, kindness and love especially these last months.
