Anita Louise (Lee) PetersonJune 18, 1937 - October 24, 2004HOUSTON, MINN. - Anita Louise Peterson, 67, died Sunday, October 24, 2004, at her home surrounded by family and friends.Born Anita Louise Lee to Stella (Saunders) Lee and Julian O. Lee in Yucatan Township near Houston, Minnesota. She grew up in the Yucatan area, attended Yucatan Store School, and graduated from Houston High School in 1955. She married Lyle C. Peterson of Houston on October 25, 1958 and they lived in Houston since 1959. Anita worked for 24 years at the Hokah Learning Center in pre-school special education, where she helped many wonderful children. She was co-owner of the A&J Lunchwagon for the last 26 years. She was a member of the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston and the American Lutheran Church Women. She was active in many organizations, including the Oak Ridge Church Cemetery Association (helped move the Church to Norway), a Board member of Houston County NetWorks (serving handicapped children), the National Children's Cancer Society, and the Houston Chamber of Commerce. She volunteered for many community events. Anita had a special interest in children and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.She died Sunday after a courageous six-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis and receiving a lung transplant in 2000. Thanks to the many wonderful doctors, nurses, and friends that helped Anita during this time. She was a strong supporter of organ donation.Anita is lovingly survived by her husband, Lyle; her three children, Doug (Katie Anderson) of Minneapolis, Wendy (Warren Peterson) of Winona, and Travis Peterson of Houston; her four grandchildren Nathan and Hannah of Minneapolis, Krista of Houston, and Melissa of Winona; and many close friends and relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lila Jackowski, and brother, Jerome Lee.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 27 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be at the Stone Church Cemetery.Visitation is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Home in Houston and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Church.
