Lewiston, MN Amos Carl Helland, 84 of Lewiston, passed away Wednesday evening October 27, 2004 at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. Amos was born June 1, 1920 in Winnebago County, Iowa to Edward and Louise (Sampson) Helland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from high school in Thompson, Iowa. Amos married Ardis Bang November 21, 1942 in Worth County, Iowa. Amos is a naval veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. On his return from military duty he worked as a carpenter in Iowa and Wisconsin; after retiring from carpentry he designed and built furniture. In 1986 he an Ardis moved to Lewiston where they are members of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Amos is survived by his wife Ardis, two sons, Nelson (Carol) Helland of Lewiston and D. Lon (Susan) Helland of Eau Claire, WI, one granddaughter, Lisa (Scott) Meyer, four grandsons, Tony (Letty), Luke (MaryJo), Tim (Andrea), and Luther (Tana), 12 great-grandchildren, one brother Lester Helland of Mondovi, WI, a sister-in-law Mildred of Waterloo, IA and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, four brothers and a great grandson Xavier Meyer. Amos loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed working in his wood shop and going fishing. He was an avid reader and appreciated the Bookmobile. Funeral Services will be 11AM Saturday at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Lewiston with the Rev. David A. Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in Lewiston Public Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7 PM Friday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? Lewiston Chapel. They may also call one hour before services Saturday at the church.
