Amos B. Bakken, 86, of Minneapolis, MN, and previously of Rushford, MN, died on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Providence Place Nursing Home in Minneapolis.Amos was born on July 12, 1923 in Rushford to Arthur and Bertha Bakken. He married Marie Stone Rentmeester on August 28, 1948. Amos and Marie made their home in Rushford until they moved to Minneapolis in 2006.He is survived by his brother Carrol Bakken of Rushford, daughter Pamela (Daniel) Weisdorf of Minneapolis, son Lynn (Jennifer) Bakken of Ramsey and daughter Arlene (Bill) Holmen of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren Darrin (Tracy) Dahl, Deadra (John Rodman) Dahl, Erica (Chris) Warlick, Michael Weisdorf, Samuel Weisdorf, Elasondra Bakken, Connor Bakken, Sydney Bakken, Shawn (Becky) Rentmeester, Stacy (Darin) Magnuson, Gena Alban, and Matthew Holman; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Hazelmae Hodge, and son, Dean Rentmeester.During WWII, Amos worked at an airplane factory in Long Beach, California. He returned to Rushford and worked as a carpenter and later as co-owner of Bakken Construction with his father and brother. He was an active member of the Rushford Fire Department and Lion's Club for many years. He enjoyed viewing nature, hunting, fishing, bowling, car races and, in later years, spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. The family wishes any memorials be directed to the Rushford Fire Department.A memorial service will be held at Rushford Lutheran Church on April 23 at 1:00 with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.
