Alvin J. Gensmer

Altura, Alvin J. Gensmer, 85, of Altura died Monday morning January 24th at St. Anne's Extended Healthcare in Winona. Alvin was born October 26, 1919 in Norton Township of Winona County to Anton and Emma (Kueter) Gensmer. He and Ada Lenore Luehman were married November 16, 1943 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Lewiston. They made their home in Milwaukee during WWII where Alvin worked as a machinist. They later returned to Norton Township to farm on the family farm for many years. Following his retirement from farming Alvin was a sales representative for Schaefer Oil. Ada died in April of 1983. He and Margaret Holst were married. The couple moved to Mountain Hope, Arkansas for 10 year. She later died and Alvin returned to Altura in 2001. He was a member of Jehovah Ev. Lutheran Church in Altura. Alvin enjoyed playing the accordion, drawing, fishing, puzzles and feeding bird, especially the ducks at Lake Winona. Survivors include two children; Mark Gensmer of Winona and Jayne Miller of Seattle, WA, two granddaughters, Heather Miller of Seattle, WA and Amber Miller of Los Angeles, two brothers, Martin Gensmer of Altura and Gary Gensmer of Lancaster, WI. He was preceded in death by fours sisters; Olga, Vida, Frieda and Erna and a brother Louie. Funeral Services will be 1 PM Thursday at Jehovah Ev. Lutheran Church in Altura with Pastors Michael A. Lindemann and David A. Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Ev. Cemetery in Norton Township. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? Lewiston Chapel.
