Alvin H. Burfeind, 96, died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Winona Health Services in Winona, MN. Alvin was born on April 8, 1916, in Warren Township, MN, to Herman and Anna (Muenchow) Burfeind. He was a 1933 graduate of Lewiston High School. Alvin honorably served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater. He married Rose Marian Neal on April 6, 1946, in Trenton, NJ. Alvin worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Rail Road from 1937-1976. He was also a lifelong hobby farmer as well. Alvin was a member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church which he began attending in1918 at the age of 2 years old. He was also a member of the Winona Historical Society, Mid Continent Rail Road Museum, Chicago and Northwestern Historical Society and a member of the American Legion since November 1945. Alvin enjoyed the 35 bus trips to all parts of the United States and Canada with his loving wife, Marian.Survivors include his three children, Mark Burfeind of Stockton, MN, Jean Meier of Lewiston, MN, and Clare (Patricia) Burfeind of Lewiston, MN; four grandchildren, Heather Adams, Jason Meier, Michael and Matthew Burfeind; seven great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Jennifer, Bandon and Austin Howell, Madysen, Daytona and Jason Meier Jr.; and a sister, Norma Biwer of Winona, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marian, and grandson, Shaun Meier.
