Rushford, Alvin S. Bakke, 91, of Rushford died, Friday, January 21, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. Alvin was born October 20, 1919 in Fillmore County to Albert and Sadie (Stensland) Bakke. He and LaVerne Rakstad were married at Rushford Lutheran Church in 1943. They farmed until 1945. He drove truck from 1945 - 1946 and worked for the Rushford Police Department from 1946-1948. In 1948 Alvin opened Bakke Realty, selling real estate and insurance and conducting auctions. From 1961 - 1970 he worked with Bert Jensen in the furniture, ambulance and funeral home businesses. Alvin worked as the head custodian at Rushford School from 1970 until his retirement in 1984. Following retirement he worked part-time at Rushford IGA. He was a former member of Rushford Lions Club, the Commercial Club, Business Development Club, Rushford Lutheran Church Council, Rushford City Council and had served as president of the Southeastern Minnesota Board of Realtors. Alvin was a 50year member of the Rushford Masonic Lodge #69, Scottish Rite Bodies and the Order of the Eastern Star #93. LaVerne died December 27, 2010. He is survived by nieces, nephews and their families. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Gladys Nelson and two brothers, Howard and Milford Bakke. There will be a Memorial Service for Alvin 11AM Friday at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Reverend Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will follow in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery .
