Alton "Spot" Levern Gile, 93, of Rollingstone, was called home Tuesday, June 5, 2012. Alton, the second of three children, was born January 18, 1919 at home in Winona to Thomas and Ethel Nora (Young) Gile. He grew up farming while attending school in Winona. On October 12, 1940, Alton was united in marriage to Helen Kindt and in the spring of 1946 they bought a farm a mile west of Rollingstone. Together, they raised two sons, Bill and Denny. Alton and Helen enjoyed 51 years together until she passed away in December 1991. They were lifelong members of First Baptist Church in Winona. When Alton was no longer able to attend Sunday services, he enjoyed listening to them on the radio. Alton loved his family and will be missed at the weekly Saturday dinners at Denny and Tina's house. Alton is survived by his sons, Bill Gile and Denny (Tina) Gile, both of Rollingstone; grandchildren, Joel Gile, Cindy Gile, Terry (Dawn) Gile; great-grandchildren, Jesse (Paul) Ebner, Samantha Gile, and Amanda Gile; and great-great-granddaughter, Morgan; brother-in-law, Connie Steurnagel of Wabasha; sister-in-law, Alice Gile of Winona; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Gile; daughter-in-law, Judy Gile; sister, Vivian (Milton) Lueck; brother, Eugene Gile; sister-in-law, Elaine Steurnagel.Memorial service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Winona with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Dennis Hudson will officiate.
