St. Charles, MN Alton Arthur Loppnow passed into eternal rest Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Golden Living Center - Whitewater in St. Charles, at the age of 93. Alton was born on June 27, 1916 in Elba to Arthur and Minnie (Brehmer) Loppnow. Alton was united in marriage to Inez V. Schafer in Elba on September 5, 1944. Together they farmed for one year south of Altura, and then farmed for 32 years north of St. Charles. In 1976, they sold their farm and moved to Dodge Center where Alton did carpentry work for 5 years. They then moved back to the St. Charles area in 1981. Alton was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles, served on the church Board for two terms, made crosses for the children's sermons for years, delivered meals on wheels, and was an avid woodworker all his life, making many projects for family and friends with the last project made at the age of 92. Alton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Inez of St. Charles; three children, Leland (Dorean) Loppnow of Dodge Center, Ramona Bamlet of Elba and Ronald (Karen) Loppnow of St. Charles; six grandchildren, Monica Loppnow (Dan Battenfeld), Melissa (Scott) Millner, Megan Loppnow (Eric McPhee), Jesse Bamlet, Chad (Chris) Loppnow, and Shawn Loppnow (Mandy Milene); eleven great-grandchildren, Joey, Danny, and Hannah Millner, Alex, Zak, and Ella McPhee, Logan Gaynor, Sami, Devon, Dylan, and Austyn Loppnow; two step great-grandchildren, Brooke and Deja Battenfeld; and one sister Alyce Schultz of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Minnie and three sisters, Phyllis Uthke, Evelyn Haake and Ruby Sebo. The Funeral Service for Alton will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Reverend Steven McGinley officiating. Burial will follow at Saratoga Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8pm on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Hoff Funeral Home - St. Charles Chapel and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
