Alma M. Wollin

February 23, 1919 — April 29, 2009

Alma M. Wollin, 90, peacefully passed away after a brief illness, on Wednesday, April 29th at her home in Lewiston, with nieces at her side. She was born to Otto & Emma (Schwager) Wollin on February 23, 1919 in Bethany, where Alma resided on the Wollin homestead with her brother and sister before moving to Lewiston in 1989. Alma was a member of Our Savior's Moravian Church in Altura. She was a devoted member of the Bethany Moravian Church before its congregation joined the Altura church. Alma faithfully served the Bethany church community as an organist, Sunday school teacher, and choir member for many years. She was a helpmate to her brother Hilbert on the farm before they moved to town. Alma was a devoted sister and a special aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was an extraordinary cook and baker, and nurtured a generous garden and the farmstead, along with her sister Ellen. Alma enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, reading, and playing cards. She was a gracious hostess out on the farm for many meals and card parties throughout the years. Alma's meek nature, virtuous example, sense of humor, and kindness endeared her to all who knew her. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Teddy, three sisters, Emilie (Herman) Schultz, Meta (Lawrence) Lewis, and Ellen Wollin, brother Hilbert, and a niece Joanne (Tony) Speltz. She is survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, at 11A.M., at Our Savior's Moravian Church in Altura with the Reverend David Sobek officiating. Burial will follow at Our Savior's Moravian Cemetery - Bethany. Friends may call one hour before services at the church. Please share a memory at Alma's on-line guestbook at www.hofffuneral.com. Hoff Funeral Home of St. Charles is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice, 1811 Greenview Place, SW, Rochester, MN 55902 or to Our Savior's Moravian Church.
