Allen S. Sather, 91, of Houston died Monday, February 20, 2006, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. Allen was born on January 6, 1915, at Looney Valley in rural Houston, Minn. to J.A. and Amanda (Stenberg) Sather. He attended Upper Looney Valley School and graduated from Houston High School. On September 30, 1939, he married Marjorie Westby. Allen farmed all of his life on the home farm in Looney Valley until age 88. He was an active member of the Looney Valley Lutheran Church, where he had been on the Church Council, Financial Secretary, Men's Brotherhood, Dartball League, Church Quartet, and was in the Church Choir until the age of 90. Allen was a member of the Farmers Union, an officer in the Houston - Money Creek Coop Creamery Board, Houston County D.H.I.A., and the Silver Creek Cemetery Board. Allen played softball and baseball in his younger years. He played baseball for the Houston Aces, and had been a prospect of the Cincinnati Reds baseball team. Allen's faith and his family were the center of his life. He loved to travel. Allen was a very well respected farmer who received many ag related awards over the years. Allen is survived by his wife, Marjorie; four children: Richard (Marlene) Sather of Houston, Minn., Karen (Dave) Moses of Lake City, Minn., David (Cindy) Sather of Edmond, Okla., and Jude (Bob) Ledebuhr of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Tami (Taylor), Heidi (Jerred), Duren (Ceira), Kärin (Eric), Nicole (Marcus), Ryan (Hilary), and Aaron; one grandson-in-law, Jason Vix; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother: Merton Sather of Houston, Minn.; three sisters: Verlie Sather of Winona, Minn., Themis DeGroff of Winona, Minn., and Marjorie Skree of Houston, Minn. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Wendi Vix, and two great-granddaughters. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston with the Rev. Jeff Forbes officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
