Allen Raymond Kieffer

Allen R. "Toby" Kieffer, 78, of Utica died Sunday, March 8, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Allen was born March 28, 1930 in Winona to Raymond and Corinne (Siebenaler) Kieffer. He attended Elba and Utica public schools and St. Charles High School. He lived with his family near Elba until 1939 when they moved to rural Utica. Allen served in the Army from 1952 - 1954, stationed in Germany. He and Joy Ihrke were married May 25, 1955 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston. They farmed near Utica until 1961. They then moved to the village of Utica where he worked for Hulshizer Grain Co. Allen also worked for the City of Utica, and currently worked for Osborn Medical Corp. of Utica. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, Sunday drives, spending time with his grandchildren and reminiscing about the old days. Survivors include four children: Robert (Mary) Kieffer of Appleton, MN; Kyle (Pat) Kieffer of St. Charles; Tod (Alanna) Kieffer of Utica and Amy (Julio) Salazar of Apple Valley, MN, seven grandchildren: Nicole, Ashley, Jamie, Matt, Travis, Amanda and Beau, two brothers, Donald Kieffer of Rochester and Louis (Donna) Kieffer of St. Charles, a sister, Kay (Don) Schmidtknecht of Waumandee, WI. His wife Joy died December 25, 2004. A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with the Reverend James F. Callahan officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church from 4-8PM Thursday and one hour before services on Friday. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War Posts.
