Alice May Winslow, 90, of Fountain, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at the Chosen Valley Care Center where she has been a resident since 2014.
Alice was born May 2, 1925 to Alex and Lillian Riddle. She attended the Wykoff Public Schools. She married Fernando Paul Winslow on January 23, 1942 and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage on the Winslow Family Farm near Fountain, MN where they raised their 6 children.
Alice was involved in many activities; from her years of being a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, Women's Society at the Fountain United Methodist Church where she was a lifelong member, and was recently (2014) honored by Farm Bureau at a State level for her many years of volunteer service. Alice loved going on the annual Winslow Girls Fall Ride that was organized by her daughters, daughter-in-law and granddaughters. She was able to attend all the annual rides up until the last year when her health declined.
Alice was famous for her Christmas Tea Rings that she made and gave away to family and friends. Her fried chicken and pies were always the first to go at picnics because people knew how good they were according to her husband! Alice's greatest joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren and receiving phone calls and visits from them.
Alice's family would like to thank the Fountain United Methodist Women for always remembering mom with their visits, gifts, cards and sending her the church bulletin when she was no longer able to attend; and the Chosen Valley Care Center for their kindness and good care they provided to her. They would also like to acknowledge Everette and Beatrice Eickhoff for their many years of friendship with Mom and Dad and taking mom for rides and lunch out after Dad passed away.
Alice is survived by her six children, Joanne Kappler, Fuquay-Varina, NC, Paula (Percy) Bessingpas, Stewartville, MN, Connie Walker, Chatfield, MN, Kenneth Winslow, Fountain, MN, Jean (Gary) Scheevel, Preston, MN, and Scott (Jean) Winslow, Fountain, MN; 17 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and one on the way; her sisters Edith Christopherson, June (Wayne) Anderson, and Merle (Barbie) Riddle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fernando, parents, a grandson, Adam Winslow, brothers Earl, Raymond, Melvin, and sisters, Delores, and Harriett. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wykoff Lions Club as caretakers of the Winslow Cemetary, the Wykoff Veterans Memorial park, the Chosen Valley Care Center or the Fountain United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30 at the Chatfield United Methodist Church. The Reviewal will be held at the church on Saturday two hours prior to services from 9:30-11:30 with services held at 11:30.
