Alice M. Boyum

May 22, 1945 — September 17, 2007

On Monday, September 17th, 2007, the Lord called his servant Alice Mae Boyum home after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Alice was born on May 22, 1945, in Preston, Minn. to Alfred and Gertie (Lysgaard) Bakkum. She was raised on a farm in rural Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School in 1963. On May 17th, 1969, she married Roger Boyum. Shortly after their marriage, she and Roger moved to Peterson, Minn. where they raised their two sons, Rick and Scott. Alice worked several jobs through the years. Many of the jobs were in housekeeping. Alice was an extremely strong woman. Alice was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson. She taught Sunday school for over 20 years, this was a wonderful and rewarding experience for her. She also was a Luther League advisor for many years. She enjoyed family, friends, being a member of the class of 63 club, bike rides, convertible rides, collecting angels, baking and decorating cakes for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays as well as for other special occasions, baking many batches of strull at Christmas time, cooking, traveling, cleaning, gardening, shopping, eating out, and occasional trips to the casino. Her family however always remained her top priority. This was very evident due to the several years she spent caring for her mother, Gertie, and her late brother, Gordon. She very dearly loved her two granddaughters, Hayley and Grace Boyum. Alice is survived by her husband, Roger; two sons Rick (Kim Haagenson) Boyum of Chatfield and Scott (Lora) Boyum of Stewartville, Minn.; two special grandchildren: Hayley and Grace; three special step-grandsons: Zeb, Sawyer, and Scout; one sister, Marie (Glen) Ingalls of Rochester, Minn.; one brother, Kenneth (Catherine) Bakkum of Rushford; her mother, Gertie Bakkum of Rushford; many nieces and nephews; and many special friends: Chris Brennen, Rachel Boyum, Sharri Boyum, Bertha Boyum, Olive Peterson, Duane and Cheryl Haugen, Ann Joyce, Beatrice Fox, Becky Stocker, Marcia and Roger Colbenson, Barb and Dave Bucholz, Donna and Milford Olson, Carol and Ken Kingsley, Dorothy Drummond, Ruth Black, Eric and Judy Maland, Mike and Ilene Larson, Alice Lee, Becky Ozman, Gayle and Jim Hoiness, Betty Culhane, Mary Soreneson, Roger and Lavonne Thompson; Class of 63 girls: Linnette, Jean, Diane, Karen, Betty, Mary Lou, Joyce, Corrine, Hileane; neighbors: Brenda and Bill; special cousins: Arlene and Daryl, Jan and Gerald, Larry, Donna and Truman, and all of the Bakkums from Wisconsin. All of you attending her funeral were all special people in her life. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred, and two brothers: Arthur and Gordon Bakkum. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. 2nd Timothy 4:7
