RUSHFORD, MN - Alfred J. Semerad, 82, of Rushford, MN died on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
Alfred was born on September 12, 1934, in Elma, IA to Ludvik and Anna (Kuhn) Semerad. He was raised in Elma and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Elma. Alfred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, IA and later received his Bachelors Degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville in Platteville, WI. Alfred was the editor of the Harford Times Press in Hartford, WI for several years. He then went to work with his brother, Dennis at Cord Cable in Rochester, MN until his retirement. Alfred moved to Rushford in 2000, where he lived until the time of his death. Alfred enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and morel mushroom hunting. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rushford and the American Legion.
Alfred is survived by a sister, Bernice Kvidera of Wauwatosa, WI; five brothers: Robert Semerad of Fairfax, VA, Richard Semerad of Jim Falls, WI, Leonard Semerad of Jackson, WI, Dennis Semerad of Rochester, MN and Paul Semerad of Flushing, MI; even though he never had children of his own, he touched so many of his nieces and nephews lives throughout the years since he lived with so many of our families to help raise and influence us in so many ways, we are very blessed to have called him Uncle Al.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludvik and Anna Semerad; two sisters: Ione Stodola and Inez Pelley; and by a brother, Arthur Semerad.
There will be a memorial Mass for Alfred at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29,2016, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rushford with the Rev. Matthew Fasnacht officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be at the State Veterans Cemetery in Spooner, WI at a later date.
