RUSHFORD, MINN. - Alf G. Mindrum, 84, of Rushford, Minn. passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. Alf was born on July 9, 1924, to Palmer and Margit (Landsverk) Mindrum. He was raised in the Rushford and Houston area and graduated from Houston High School. He married W. Doris Evans on September 2, 1944. Alf worked as a butcher and meat cutter at the Peterson Locker for 21 years. He worked for Skifton's Meat Market in Houston for six and a half years. Alf also worked at the Holty Feed Mill, drove truck for Midland Oil Co., and at the Rushford IGA for 23 years until his retirement. Alf enjoyed John Deere tractors, wood working, spending time with his family, teasing his grandchildren, and speaking Norwegian to the nurses and aids at the nursing home, because they didn't really know what he was saying. Alf was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Houston. He is survived by his wife, Doris; six daughters: Catherine (Kenneth) Bakkum of Rushford, Sheryl (Marty) Krahenbuhl of Elma, Iowa, Andrea (Ardell) Lee of Rushford, Bernita (Mark) Salmon of Winona, Minn., Leanne (Glen) Sedlmayr of Stoddard, Wis., and Marita Newgarden (Allen Frisch) of St. Charles, Minn.; fifteen grandchildren: Kendall Bakkum, Caryn Butler, Dean Bakkum, Sara Ptacek, Daniel Salmon, Kristin Kelley, Laura Salmon, Bryan, Jenna and Aaron Lee, Christopher and Lacie Newgarden, Lydia Johnson, and Abbey and Sadie Sedlmayr; fourteen great-grandchildren: Kayla, Ashlee, Hunter and Annika Bakkum, Jayde Butler, Zach and Betsy Bakkum, Tori VanDyke, Alessa and Drake Bakkum, Landon Lee, Kieran and Kayden Kelly, and Margaret Salmon; Three brothers: Paul, Arne, and Ellert (Jean) Mindrum; two sisters: Freida (Ron) Nowland and Ellen Olson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Alf was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, one niece Rebecca, brother-in-law Maelyn Olson, and two sisters-in-law Nancy Mindrum, and Janet Mindrum. There will be a funeral service for Alf at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, Minn. with the Rev. Wade Davick officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Evangelical Free Cemetery in Houston, Minn. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
