Altura, Aletha G. Carlson, 89, former Altura area resident, died Tuesday July 31, 2007 at Lewiston Villa. Aletha was born July 15, 1918 in Holt Township of Fillmore County to Albert and Guinild (Engebretsen) Hongerholt and attended Maland Country School. Following school she worked as a housekeeper for her aunt and for a family in Winona. She later did factory work in Blair, WI. Aletha married Marvin J. Carlson on November 2, 1943 in Peterson. They farmed near St. Charles for four years before moving to the Altura area, farming there until retirement. She worked several years in the cafeteria at the Lewiston-Altura Schools. In 1983 they moved to Utica, where they lived until moving to Alterra Homes in Winona in 1998. In January of 2002 the couple moved to Lewiston Villa. Marvin died December 6, 2003. Aletha was a member of Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church of Altura, where she was active in the choir and Women's Guild. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and canning. One of her greatest enjoyments was bowling. Survivors include her son, John Carlson of Rochester, four daughters; Mary (Bud Hanson) Carlson of Rochester, Betty (Ralph) VanHouten of Byers, CO, Jane (Paul) Carlson of Eden Prairie and Arlene (LaVerne) Nelson of Altura, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Ingvold (Buellah) Hongerholt of Brooklyn Park and Joseph (Bobbi) Hongerholt of Williston, ND and a sister, Helen (Glen) Raaen of Lanesboro. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Sidney and four sisters, Ida, Hilda, Hildegarde and Helen. Funeral Services will be 11AM Friday at Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altura with The Reverends David A. Fischer and Michael A. Lindemann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 PM Thursday at Hoff Funeral Home in Lewiston. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Friday.
