Albert "Al" Long, 86, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at his home in Winona, MN. Al was born on August 30, 1924, in Chicago, IL, to George and Jennie ( Kobel) Long. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater. On December 16, 1967, he married Janice Halbe in Chicago, IL. During his lifetime, Al had been a fireman for the Chicago Fire Department, was the owner/operator of the El Rancho Motel, and also worked as a boiler maker for Union 374. He moved to Winona in 1976 and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Al is lovingly remembered for his construction ability, fixing cars and for being an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Janice; four daughters, Andrea (John) Schneider of Winona, MN, Catherine Roble of Edina, MN, Shirley (Brant) Mischke of Owatonna, MN, and Jennie Long of Burnsville, MN; and eight grandchildren, Kristi, David, Kevin, Spencer, Madeleine, Lauren, Alexander and Elena. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings, Bill, Fred, Rose, Evelyn, Tom, Geni, Jim and Irene.A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, April 18th, at 11:00am, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Reverend Donald Lovas officiating. Burial will take place at a later date inFt. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service Hansen Goodview Chapel from 6-8:00pm where there will be a Christian Prayer Service at 7:30pm.
